Data Protection, Market Power and Business Models

The LIDC will be holding a lunchtime webinar on Tuesday 21 May 2024 at 1:00 pm (CET) / midday (UK).

The webinar will focus on the scope and implications of integrating market power arguments into data protection requirements for the collection and processing of personal data. How are and could concepts such as dominance and economic dependence be used in data protection compliance? What are the implications for businesses beyond the gatekeepers or large technology companies? What is the future of the pay or consent model? How can businesses integrate regulatory requirements into their business models?

SPEAKERS

Cecilia Lindström works as a General Counsel for the Voyado Group, a company group active in the markets of marketing automation and digital marketing. She previously worked as a lawyer, specialized on privacy and IT-legislation. In her work Cecilia encounters the ever increasingly interconnecting topics for competition and privacy legislation, such as consent management, “pay or consent” and access to data. Besides her work, Cecilia facilitates a network for head of legals/general counsels in Sweden with about 80 members from different sectors.

Ida Mazzenga is Head of B2C Legal at Telia Sverige AB, Sweden’s biggest telecom provider. Daily questions cover activities in a wide range of areas linked to the company’s presence in the B2C sector. She has previously held the positions as Senior Legal Counsel for Privacy and Security and Data Protection Officer for Telia Sverige AB. Before joining Telia, she has worked as a legal consultant, assisting companies in various sectors on their journey towards GDPR compliance and held several positions linked to consumer protection in the public sector both on national and European level. Very early in her career, she dabbled in the field of competition law too, but that is ancient history now. She holds a LL. M. from the University of Stockholm (Sweden) and a LL. M. from College of Europe (Belgium). 

Erika Ellyne is a commercial and ICT lawyer at Altius in Brussels. She practices digital law, data protection, telecommunications, cybersecurity, and more general commercial contracts law. Her works is focused on law and technology matters broadly speaking and the legal questions they entail. She has worked in various positions, as an academic, a lawyer and an in-house legal counsel; always focused on law and technology matters. She continues to be associated with the VUB and its Health Law and Aging Law Lab, where she assists in particular on an AI diagnostics project in the health sector.

Pranvera Këllezi is a business lawyer in Geneva, where she advises companies on Swiss and European competition law and its impact on business, as well as on contract and commercial law, data protection (CIPP/E, CIPM et CIPT), e-commerce, corporate governance and economic regulation. She has more than 20 years of experience in advising on regulations that have a direct impact on the business strategy. She is also a Commissioner of the Swiss Federal Competition Commission, she teaches EU law and publishes regularly in her field of interest. Pranvera will moderate the webinar.

The webinar is free for LIDC members, whilst there will be a registration fee of €30.00 for anyone wishing to register who is not a member.

An online link to join the webinar will be circulated via email to all those who have registered. The webinar will be conducted in English.
