Dear Friends,
On behalf of the LIDC and the Netherlands Association for Competition Law, we are pleased to invite you to the 2006 International Congress of the LIDC. This year the Congress will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands from 5 till 8 October. We believe that the attractive and entertaining programme offers plenty of scope for interesting and lively debate. The questions to be discussed in the international and national reports are of direct relevance to practitioners and, at the same time, provide the basis for extensive academic debate. The speakers will undoubtedly provide thoughtful contributions to this debate and will also add to the programme by presenting their views on other current topics. The organisation is very pleased to welcome keynote speakers Emil Paulis, Acting Deputy Director General Competition of the European Commission, Pieter Kalbfleisch, Chairman of the Board of the Netherlands Competition Authority and Hewitt Pate, former Assistant Attorney General of the US Department of Justice. This year the programme will be launched on Thursday afternoon with a Young Participants' Forum (YPF). The primary aim of the YPF is to reach out to young LIDC members, i.e. members under the age of 36, and to encourage them to contribute to a debate which will centre on a number of topical competition issues to be communicated to them in advance. Young debaters will present their views on these issues and enter into informal professional discussion with each other under the guidance of a panel of international experts. We expect the debate to be interesting both to the participants and to the other congress members who are invited to attend this part of the programme. For all present, it will be a good networking opportunity and a way to get to know new members and the LIDC. Members who are interested in participating should contact the YPF committee directly by e-mail (K.J.Cseres@uva.nl) As you will see, the programme will take place in various historical sites in the centre of Amsterdam, which can be reached easily and are only thirty minutes from Schiphol International Airport. The outline also offers an insight into the partners' programme, which includes visits to various sites in Amsterdam, The Hague and Delft. A more detailed programme is available at the following pages. Should you have any questions at this stage, please contact info@lidc2006.com. We look forward to welcoming you all in Amsterdam for the 2006 International Congress of the LIDC. With kind regards, Claude Delcorde President Martijn Snoep President of the LIDC President of the Netherlands Association for Competition Law More information about the congress
